Districts

Districts
Plaza: Lochwell
SURROUNDINGS
The landing area for all newcomers, and literally the center of the country -- all the other districts connect here like spokes on a wheel. Characters will awake here with no memory of why or how they arrived. Most will be sent to other districts, but some will be told that there's no better place for them than the heart of the country. The surrounding area is made up of cottages, which have been there for quite some time as indicated by the green vines scaling the walls. In the direct center of Lochwell, however, lies a rather off-place castle, standing five storeys high and made out of deep blue bricks. Characters will be acquainted with this castle early on as the King and Queen of Mallowhallow's abode. Lochwell is a place of movement, and it never slows down for even a second.
TREATMENT
People generally have lots of love for Lochwell. It's hard to find a frowning face in this district. The people live good lives and have wide exposure to all the other cultural aspects of the other districts. It's a great spot for getting at least a little taste of everything Mallow Hallow has to offer.
NPCS
The people of Lochwell are usually quite upbeat, and tend to be continually on the go. They're not the friendliest toward newcomers, but they can (and will, with utmost "get out of our hair" speed) direct you to where you need to go. Time waits for no man, and neither do they. If you can keep up with them, though, you can probably make some friends -- or, at the very least, some decent business connections.
LEADER
The rulers over Lochwell, and Mallow Hallow in general, are King Lumbiee and Queen Queenie. Don't laugh at their names, they hate it. While seemingly silly at first, the King and Queen are quite stern and can be very cruel if you need them to be. In actual fact, though, it's Queenie who runs the show, particularly for Lochwell. What she says goes, and don't you forget it. And don't make a mess. She hates messes.
LANDMARKS
The Blue Castle -- The royal residence, everyone knows this place. It's rather hard to miss something that big made out of bright blue bricks, after all. Newcomers are escorted here for their first audience with their new rulers, and to receive their communication device and district assignment. The castle itself is an opulent place fit for the rulers of such a country, with goods from all of the various districts (ex., the bedrooms contain the softest mattresses from Mallow Hallow, while Crystalden provides various electronic entertainment for the royal couple). It's also cleaned daily, top to bottom, to satisfy Queenie's demand that there never be a mess she has to clean up.
Mallow Hallow First Monarchial -- Mallow Hallow's nation-wide bank, created to help the newcomers get their feet under them now that they have to pay for things with money. The bank has a savings account for everyone in the country, and allows easy transfer of cash to and from that account, either in person or electronically. It also offers loans to anyone who might need one, but be forewarned -- you are definitely expected to pay that money back. . .
COMMUNICATION DEVICE
Lochwell has flip phones with a full keyboard. they come in an array of colors, and are one of the more basic communication devices in Mallow Hallow. They don't do much else than broadcast and allow one to access their banking information (thanks to a new app Tronctor pushed out across the system).
District 1: Mallowhallow (pillows)
SURROUNDINGS
Mallowhallow was the first thing to ever exist, which is why this district and the country have the same name. Pillows make up everything in this area of Mallow Hallow, generally in a light pink color, though pillows of all shapes, sizes, and colors can be found here. The houses are made of firm pillows, nearly the consistency of mattress, but softer.
TREATMENT
Locals will be reluctant to talk about the history of Mallow Hallow, because of its start in such an… unlikely place. Generally, this place is seen to hold the “lower tier” of people, and locals from all other places tend to avoid it out of embarrassment.
NPCS
Regular people, but with... irregular clothes. As you probably guessed, all clothes are made out of pillows. Generally, the people of Mallowhallow are very kind, but people tend to avoid them because of their silly upbringings.
LEADER
While Queenie takes care of things in Lochwell, King Lumbiee generally keeps the closest eye on Mallowhallow. Probably because it's as soft as he is inside. He's not the most active of monarchs -- he leaves most of the heavy lifting to his wife -- but he does make some effort to answer questions and concerns.
LANDMARKS
The House of Bro -- Not really an "official" landmark, but Bro Strider's pillow house does stand out among the usual dwellings in Mallowhallow. For one thing, it's a rare multiple story dwelling, complete with fire escape. For another, it's bright orange.
COMMUNICATION DEVICE
Their devices are, you guessed it again, pillows. Resembling an iPhone, these pillows come in any color, and work like a touch screen. They're no bigger than the size of your palm. You can take pictures and sleep on them. They come equipped with broadcasting capability and the banking info app.
District 2: Orlea (modern)
SURROUNDINGS
The most important part of this region; besides being able to find all consumer goods within, it is the home of schools in the country. Never one to turn away visitors, the Orlea district accepts people of all backgrounds—magical and non-magical. Because of this, there are two defining schools within—“normal” schools with normal classes, and “magical” schools with magical classes. People from each district can be found. People of all ages can attend school in order to find a proper job that suits them in the other districts. That said, obtaining a job is not mandatory, nor does it pay. It’s just something to pass the time with.
TREATMENT
People in Orlea are well liked all around Mallow Hallow. due to Orlea's accepting nature, everyone finds a friend there.
NPCS
This is where your "normal" people are. Modern day, with modern clothes, meaning you can find people in school uniforms and people in casual clothes at any given moment. The people of Orlea tend to be very accepting, and enjoy the company of just about anyone. Well -- almost. Just like any area, there's always a few bullies and bigots around.
LEADER
Lea is the workaholic leader of Orlea. She cares a lot for her people, and most of her time is spent figuring out ways to ensure her district remains running smoothly. She's also one of the easiest governors to get along with.
LANDMARKS
Orlea Center of Mundane Learning -- This place handles all the students who attend Orlea's "normal" schools.
Orlea Center of Magical Learning -- This place handles all the students who attend Orlea's "magical" schools.
Bowling Alley -- Just your average, everyday bowling alley.
Nightclub -- Not as fancy as the one gracing the topmost levels of Crystalden, but there's good drinks, a colorful dance floor, and good music to be had here.
Graveyard -- Quiet and old, this graveyard is full of ancient tombstones.
Park -- A perfect place to have a picnic!
COMMUNICATION DEVICE
These are the most basic. They come in every color under the rainbow and include a camera and an MP3 player, along with the banking info app. Orela also holds covers for all devices.
District 3: Astralfield (dreams & reality)
SURROUNDINGS
When night hits Astralfield, everyone residing in the district after 10 p.m. will fall asleep instantaneously. Upon waking up, they'll find themselves in a hotel room. When they look out the window, they'll see a fantastic sight. Everything from their dream last night became reality.

But it's not just them. Everyone who fell asleep the night before will have a bit of their dream become a part of their surroundings. And while that might not seem so bad, imagine what happens when you have a nightmare.

Apart from the ever-changing dreamscape, the buildings and general tech-level of Astralfied match up roughly to Orlea. Rumor has it that Astralfield was once part of Orlea, and that it was a accident at one ofthe magical schools that caused dreams to come to life and the eventual splitting of the district in two.
TREATMENT
The locals tend to avoid anything and everything that stems from this district. They don't have anything against the people who live there, but they're seen as "bad news". Locals rarely enter Astralfield, and people from there hardly ever leave.
NPCS
NPCs can range from dinosaurs to mass murders. From puppy dogs to talking bowls of cereal. The sky and beyond is the limit here, but one thing will always be certain. The people here are normally quite depressed, very lonely folk.
LEADER
Colt is the leader of Astralfield -- though you wouldn't know it by looking at him. A quiet teenage boy, Colt doesn't usually do much for his district, preferring to stay by himself. Good luck trying to get a hold of him.
LANDMARKS
The Hotel -- This massive building doesn't need any fancy name -- it's the only one in the entire district. And as big as it is on the outside, it seems even bigger on the inside. If you live in Astralfield, you have a room here, picked out for you by the magical energies that control the district the first time you go to sleep. Each room is unique -- you can have a simple single room, to a fancy suite. And whenever you fall asleep, you're automatically transported back to your bed. The Hotel also has an unseen maid service that will clean rooms, make beds, and refresh toiletries.
First & Second Street -- With a little bench at their intersection. Not much of a landmark, but it's a little piece of reality that stays consistent from day to day.
Down the Rabbit Hole -- Astralfield's signature bar -- and as you might guess, it has an "Alice In Wonderland" theme. The bar itself is underground, with a tunnel entrance that one has to crawl through (and it gets to be a rather tight fit). The interior might remind one of a certain Tom Petty music video, with checkboard walls slanting in odd directions. Flamingo dancers and grinning cats dance on pedestals for the enjoyment of the viewer. For intoxication purposes, there are various hookahs to smoke from, and drinks served on mirrored trays with the classic tag around their necks.
COMMUNICATION DEVICE
The communication device here is a handheld chalkboard. There's a camera on the outer border for video recordings, and to send texts all you need to do is write on the board (your text will be sent in your own handwriting). It only comes in green, but the chalk colors can differ. There are no special features on this phone beyond the banking info app (although, predictably, the information appears in chalk scribbles).
District 4: Crystalden (technology)
SURROUNDINGS
Tall, intimidating skyscrapers, constantly flashing lights, and a clear representation of this particular district. Crystalden has the most upgraded technology of all the districts—technology from all other worlds can be found here, save of course cellphones and other communication devices. Laptops are available for gaming and communicating with citizens from Mallow Hallow. No talking to people outside the country.
TREATMENT
People look up to Crystalden with respect, but normally don't enjoy staying there for too long. For one, it's confusing for the less developed districts, so they try to avoid getting lost at all costs.
NPCS
Think "Tron". Bright suits with a high-tech flair, with buttons and strips that foreigners won't know what to do with. People are free to come in and out of Crystalden, but due to the arrogant nature of the locals there, don't expect to be treated or helped in any way.
LEADER
Tronctor governs this district, and is he grumpy about it. Feeling constantly overworked and underpaid, he's liable to snap at anyone who brings a problem to his view. On the plus side, he will then throw himself into fixing the problem, grumbling all the while. Just remember to keep your skin thick while talking to him and you'll be fine.
LANDMARKS
The library -- The most expansive one in the entire country. Both paper books and e-books are available here.
Bowling Alley -- It looks normal, but there's a lot going on behind the scenes here. Still, the basics of the game haven't changed.
Electrobeats -- A little music shop, with the widest collection of CDs and MP3s available anywhere. Also sells the most technologically-advanced instruments you'll ever see.
The Tower -- A multilevel nightclub that takes up the top three floors in the district's tallest skyscraper. Everything is just what you'd expect from an ultra-futuristic club -- fog over the dance floor cut by multicolored lasers, tables and chairs that light up from the inside, a chrome bar so shiny you'd swear it was made of mirrors, and the most advanced DJ booth one could ever find.
The Blood Legacy -- Night Club/ Blood Bar. It is a modern night club with distinct ornate Victorian furniture. It has all the futuristic features that can be noted from the different bars present in the district without losing its class. All the windows are heavily tinted as to remain dark even after the sun has risen. Although the bar carries the usual drinks and liquor, it specializes in selling blood-spiked drinks and blood tablets.
COMMUNICATION DEVICE
Essentially a see-through phone, this is the most advanced communication device yet. Complete with a camera, MP3, and games, this phone has the most special features of all -- and has both the banking info app AND a special electronic payment system for use in Crystalden stores. Pay people with the touch of a touchscreen button!
District 5: Highcrest (medieval)
SURROUNDINGS
Dirt roads weave into the city, each branching off meet in with old, rustic homes, humble in size and unhygienic in nature. Houses are made of wood, none of them looking exactly alike. The main path leads directly to a large castle, the Knight's Headquarters. The amount of knights residing on the path are few to begin with, but slowly multiply as you grow closer to the castle. People are only allowed in for two reasons. One, you want to be a knight. And two, the leader of the knights needs to talk with you.
TREATMENT
People have high respects for the locals in Crystalden, but tend to steer clear of them. They keep the lands safe (most knights are employed in the King and Queen's guard), but are usually quite depressing, focusing on work over fun.
NPCS
Highcrest is one of the only places with obvious class systems, that is "lower class" "knights" and "new arrivals". Lower class generally dresses in dirty clothes, in white ( or what used to be white ), gray, black, and brown. The lower class is, however, incredibly kind and generous and are who you want to go to if you ever need a friend. Be warned, though -- they do have some historically-appropriate prejudices. The knights wear armor, and are never seen in anything else. They are informational, as in they'll tell you what you need to know and not dabble around in conversation or making friends.
LEADER
Sir Joy, leader of the knights, is also leader of Highcrest. He's rather full of himself, and has a fiery temper when provoked. However, he also believes that people should succeed on their skill rather than their rank at birth -- hence he governs his district with an eye at giving everyone a fair chance to live well if they'll do the work.
LANDMARKS
Knight's Headquarters -- The large castle that dominates the landscape and serves as home to the knights. It's not nearly as colorful as the royal couple's residence, being made of simple grey stone, but it gets the job done. You're not likely to see the inside of it unless you decide to join up with the knights.
The Three Swords -- The foremost bar of Highcrest, standing right at the center of the district. The sign outside has the Highcrest coat of arms, with three swords pointing skyward, proudly displayed. Inside, there are long tables with wooden benches, all of them showing obvious signs of wear and tear. Drinks on tap include ale, mead, and a few stronger spirits, while the food consists largely of meat, including the ever-popular roast beast platter.
Brothels -- There's a few. You'll have to find them on your own.
COMMUNICATION DEVICE
Highcrest devices are shaped like scrolls but more tech-y, thanks to Crystalden. The banking app on this one displays as fancy (but still readable) calligraphy.
District 6: Whitewood (fairies)
SURROUNDINGS
Whitewood is composed mainly of, well, forests made from trees with white wood and leaves. However, when one looks up to the top of trees, they'll find a colony, essentially, built entirely off of the ground. Much like a huge tree house, the only thing that connect Whitewood to the ground are ladders which stem from each individual house in the sky.

Animals such as wolves prowl the forest, though they tend to evade the company of newcomers and react only when provoked (or otherwise to catch their attention).

Whitewood has a number of lakes and a hot spring.
TREATMENT
Where people normally love fairies for their beauty, the fairies... hate you. All of you. Fairies think most people are horrible, and they hate when the King and Queen send the newcomers to their district. People fear the fairies for unknown reasons, but hardly anyone ever goes to Whitewood, unless they're ready to get attacked by its inhabitants.
NPCS
Some people imagine fairies as small little things, but in truth they are all different sizes. Some are five feet, others five inches. They are very self-serving individuals, so there's hardly a sense of "community" in Whitewood, despite how close their houses can get.
LEADER
Fairies may generally act as if they don't give a damn about anything but themselves, but they do recognize a leader in Orion -- probably because she's the oldest ruler in the whole of the country. She's also the most mystically-inclined as well. She's a cryptic creature who says little, but she's also a surprisingly fair ruler and works to keep Whitewood comfortable for all.
LANDMARKS
The Hot Spring -- Need a good relaxing soak? Just slip on your bathing suit and come here. Watch out for mischievous fae, though -- they're liable to take advantage of your relaxed state.
Thyme Waterdrops -- When you enter the forest from Highcrest, locate the fourth ladder to the left and climb it to discover this little bar. The servers here don't tend to be hostile as much as passive-agressive, and no one is ever denied a drink. That being said, fairies find drunk newcomers very fun to play with, so it's going to be up to you to know when to cut yourself off. And beware of ordering any special concoctions -- they may do a lot more than just get you intoxicated for a night.
COMMUNICATION DEVICE
These come in different shades of brown and white. There's a camera for pictures, and the banking info app.
